Promise

Writing vows can be an art,
If you know just where to start,
From the heart you must begin,
The words will flow out from within.

Be sincere and mean the words,
And do not make them too absurd,
These vows are for a special day,
So write them in a special way.

The vows reflect a promise,
So they must be true and honest,
Just mean the words you say,
For that is the proper way.

My husband and I did not write our own vows at our wedding; we took a more traditional approach. However, my brother and his fiance did write their own vows, and I can tell you quite honestly that it was very moving, and I think all of the guests were quite impressed. Their vows were so meaningful and from the heart, and each of them spoke their feelings in their own unique way. Women were crying all throughout the church (and probably a few men, too)!

It's really no small feat to write your own vows. It takes a lot of creative expression, and you'll want to get the words just right. After all, they are the vows you'll be reciting at your wedding to your future spouse! They should be well-written, meaningful and sincere.

Maybe you're a bride-to-be or groom-to-be and have decided to write your own wedding vows, and just want to inspire your partner. Perhaps you know someone who has decided to write vows, and you think they could use a few ideas, or that they might like to include a poem like this one with their vows.

Sharing this poem with someone who would be inspired by it is a wonderful idea. Wedding vow poems are a simple way to offer a little creative encouragement!
