Happiness
The bride and groom are special folks,
And on their wedding day,
The guests should do all that they can,
To send good thoughts their way!
The wedding party is abuzz,
With nervous energy,
The bride is looking lovely,
And she smiles for all to see.
This day is truly special,
For a wedding is unique,
The newlyweds begin to find,
The happiness they seek!

Some occasions are just so perfectly appropriate to be written about in poetry: anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, etc. Don't forget about weddings - weddings are some of the most romantic and poetic occasions of all!
My local paper often runs little poetry contests. The paper will publish a theme for the contest, and then readers can submit a poem and the editors choose winners! The prizes are really fun, such as gift certificates for dinner at a local restaurant, or theater tickets at a nearby community playhouse. It's a fun way to celebrate poetry and our wonderful community as well!
I love writing poems, so my husband encouraged me to submit a poem when the paper ran its first contest! I did so, but I didn't win. However, when they published a contest for wedding poems a couple of months later, I submitted this poem, and it was published in the paper! I was very excited and my husband bought extra copies of the paper to share with our family. I think wedding day poetry is a fun way to celebrate weddings, and that it should be shared with the people we love.
