I have a friend who is convinced that the only proper way to announce a wedding is to post a formal announcement in the local paper. She thinks that announcing your wedding via mail or other correspondence goes against tradition and that a wedding should always be formally announced.
While I agree that a formal announcement can be a nice thing to do, I certainly don't think it is necessary or that announcing your engagement in other ways should be ruled out! We are all individuals, and I think we all should embrace our unique tastes and styles.
When I got married, just over 10 years ago, my husband and I did not make a formal announcement in the paper. Instead, we chose to send a poem with our wedding invitations to announce our engagement! We wanted to set an informal tone and a fun atmosphere for our wedding, and using a lighthearted poem with our wedding invitations was just one way of doing so. People seemed to love the idea and I think it was a wonderful decision!
This poem is very similar to the one we sent out with our invitations. If including a poem with your invitations is an idea that appeals to you, feel free to use this one! As far as wedding announcement verses go, it's pretty casual and sweet.
