I've never given a speech at a wedding (public speaking is not my forté), but I do enjoy listening to them! I'm not terribly fond of the kind of speech where the speaker "roasts" the couple, or pokes fun at them, because I think that on their special day they should only have to hear positive remarks. Speeches that are very sweet or sentimental, on the other hand, are my favorite kind, and I really enjoy that sort of thing!
I've never tried to write a speech, but I have written poems that can be used for speeches! In my opinion, poetry is a perfect way to express love and congratulations for a happy couple on their wedding day. Rhyming poems in particular have such a natural rhythm and they are so easy to read or recite, and that makes them an excellent choice for speeches - especially if the speaker wishes to memorize the poem.
This poem would be excellent when read aloud or recited as a speech at a wedding reception. If more than one person decides to read a poem, you can even set a poem speech wedding theme for the reception!
